People's Resource Center asks for holiday help

You can help brighten the holidays of those in need by contributing to People's Resource Center's annual Thanksgiving Meals and Share the Spirit programs. The programs help thousands of families in need in DuPage County by providing them with a Thanksgiving meal and holiday gifts for children.

Ways to help include:

• Raising funds for the Thanksgiving Meals Program. For $30, the center can provide a family with classic Thanksgiving trimmings and a grocery gift card for a Thanksgiving turkey. The organization's goal is to provide more than 3,600 Thanksgiving meals for its client families.

• Hosting a Share the Spirit Toy Drive or Giving Tree. New, unwrapped children's toys, hats, gloves/mittens can be brought to either of two drop-off events: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at People's Resource Center southeast location, 104 Chestnut Ave., Westmont; or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at DuPage County Fairgrounds, 2015 Manchester Road, Wheaton. Template ornaments for a Giving Tree can be found at peoplesrc.org.

• Organizing a fundraiser for the 2015 Share the Spirit program. Groups can be creative in raising money for the Share the Spirit program so that hats, gloves/mittens, gift cards, and other holiday gifts can be purchased for children in need. Last year, a local school group donated more than $2,000 from its Penny Wars fundraiser.

• Volunteering during the Share the Spirit pickup days. Volunteers will assist with organizing and distributing donations to neighbors in need. Call (630) 682-5402, ext. 325, to volunteer. Sign up early as this event always fills up quickly.

Fundraisers and organizers can find sample posters, newsletter articles, news releases and more at peoplesrc.org to help spread the word about their group's specific efforts to assist the People's Resource Center this holiday season.
