Aurora man charged with fondling women's feet

An Aurora man who authorities say has taken his adoration for bare feet a step too far is back behind bars in DuPage County.

Omar Carlton, 44, of the 1000 block of Fifth Avenue, is being held on $10,000 bail after being accused of making "intentional or prolonged contact" with the bare feet of at least four women studying inside North Central College's Oesterle Library in Naperville.

Carlton is charged with a total of 10 misdemeanor counts of battery, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass to a building and violation of bail bond.

Naperville police Cmdr. Jason Arres said Carlton was arrested just after 9:30 p.m. Oct. 8, when police responded to the call from a campus security officer who recognized Carlton as being banned from the campus.

Arres said Carlton had used his feet to caress those of four women between the ages of 18 and 22, who had removed their shoes while studying at tables in the library.

Carlton's "bare foot made contact with the bare feet of four different college-aged women multiple times," Arres said.

Jim Godo, the college's assistant vice president for external affairs, said Wednesday that Carlton was banned from the campus in 2010 for "some similar, unusual behavior."

Carlton has a lengthy rap sheet in DuPage, Kane and Will counties and was sentenced to prison in 1990 for robbery and aggravated battery in Kane County.

In April 2009, Carlton pleaded guilty to criminal trespass for a March 2008 incident inside Wheaton College's Buswell Memorial Library, where he touched his bare feet against the bare feet of a female patron after he already had been banned from that campus.

In July 2006, Carlton had "bare foot to bare foot" contact with a female patron at Naperville Public Library's 95th Street location. Arres said the situation was "similar to the allegations involving North Central." A Will County judge sentenced Carlton to eight days in jail in that case.

In January 2000, Carlton pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and was sentenced to 10 days of community service for a June 1999 situation in which he also touched his bare feet against the bare feet of an unsuspecting woman in the library of the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.
