New information shared in Gliniewicz case

Authorities investigating the death of Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz released new information on gunshot residue and ballistics tests Monday. "Gunshot residue and ballistics tests do not support or exclude any specific theory in this investigation," Lake County sheriff's spokesman Chris Covelli said. Covelli says the task force collected DNA from the scene to be run against samples from known offenders in a database. Authorities have not yet found the source of the DNA. Full story.

Elgin man gets 50 years for neighbor's murder

An Elgin man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Monday for the March 2013 stabbing of his new neighbor in her townhouse on the city's near west side. Paul A. Johnson, 36, could have received up to 100 years after being convicted this year of murdering Lisa Koziol-Ellis, a 33-year-old artist who had just moved to the Garden Quarter townhouse development. Semitrailer hauling caramel crashes near Wadsworth, spilling cargo

A semitrailer truck hauling barrels of caramel crashed on I-94 near Wadsworth on Monday afternoon, injuring the driver and spilling 35,000 pounds of the sticky substance into a roadside ditch. Fortunately for passing motorists, the gooey mess didn't hit the roadway. Full story.

Fire damages Mount Prospect candy shop

Fire gutted a candy store in a Mount Prospect shopping center Monday, causing $250,000 in damage, but firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to other shops. Full story.

Masseur gets probation in sexual abuse case

A Barrington masseur was sentenced to two years of probation Monday after pleading guilty to allegations he sexually abused a client. Michael S. Greenfield, 55, of Lake in the Hills pleaded guilty to one count of criminal sexual abuse for an offense that occurred during a massage on Jan. 15, Barrington police said. Full story.
