Investigators search for cause of I-294 truck fire
Traffic on the southbound Tri-State Tollway at Willow Road was snarled for two hours Wednesday as emergency crews worked to extinguish and clean up a midday truck fire.
Two right southbound lanes were shut down after a disabled semitrailer truck caught fire at 11:34 a.m., though it was not involved in a crash, according to the Illinois State Police. No injuries were reported.
Authorities say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Smoke could be seen for miles billowing from I-294, where fire department crews were trying to put out the fire. Northbrook officials confirmed their emergency crews responded to the scene.
