St. Isidore plans annual basketball tournament
The St. Isidore Catholic School and Parish parking lot and grounds will be the site of "everything hoops" on Saturday, Aug. 29, when the 17th annual Cyclones 3-on-3 basketball tournament tips off.
More than 60 teams and 250 players are expected to participate on up to 15 portable courts this year. Last year's event raised more than $9,000 for the school.
Tournament Chairman Jason Ciolino said the competition is open to the public, but limited to school-age students entering third through 10th grades. Teams can be made up of a maximum of four players. The entry fee is $100 per team and needs to be submitted by 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the school office, 431 W. Army Trail Road, Bloomingdale. Cash or checks are acceptable, with checks made payable to St. Isidore School. Check-in for the tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 29, with games at 9 a.m.
"The 3-on-3 tournament has evolved into one of the most highly anticipated events and fundraisers of our school year," Ciolino said, "not just among our St. Isidore community, but throughout the entire community.
"To see our school and parish grounds filled with hundreds of players, spectators, food, music and fun is really something."
Each team will be grouped by age and experience into divisions based on entries received. The tournament committee says a team's roster must be made up of players of the same age and/or grade in school and of the same gender.
All teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games and will receive a free lunch from Rocco Vino's and commemorative T-shirts. Medals will be awarded to each division-winning team.
Tournament rules are listed along with other information and entry forms on the school's website at stisidoreparishschool.org, as well as in the St. Isidore School office.
