Wheeling man guilty of forgery

The former owner of a Des Plaines sealcoating and paving company was found guilty Tuesday of forgery after trying to deposit a fraudulent check last November. Andrew A. Schwartz, of Wheeling, was taken into custody immediately after Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta announced his finding. Full story.

Elgin man gets 5 years for marijuana

After pleading guilty to possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis in a 2014 bust, an Elgin man will face five years in prison. Victor H. Galvan, of the 200 block of North Weston Avenue, was caught with 15 pounds of marijuana when police raided his home last year. Full story.

Streamwood police looking for robber who impersonated a cop

A man who identified himself as a cop stopped a woman in Streamwood and stole money from her purse. The woman was driving down Ascot Lane when a man in an unmarked dark Ford with a red and blue light bar on its dashboard stopped her. Full story.

Vernon Area library halts fines for overdue books

The Vernon Area Public Library launched a new policy this week that no longer penalizes library patrons for having overdue books. The library wiped every library card of its past overdue fines but will still charge patrons for lost books and other material. Full story.

Grant brings STEM classes to Buffalo Grove middle school students

A new grant will allow some students in Northwest Suburban High School District 214 to start STEM education early through an after-school outreach program called Next Generation Engineers.
