SCHAUMBURG PRAIRIE CENTER FOR THE ARTS ANNOUNCES 30TH SEASON OF ENTERTAINMENT
The Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts announces its 30th season of arts and entertainment, highlighted by music, dance, film, lectures and a little retro-partying.
"It has truly been an exciting 30 years, made possible by all those who recognize and embrace the arts and cultural activities in the Schaumburg community," said Elizabeth Armistead, Executive Director of the Prairie Center.
The 2015-16 season will kick-off with "Back for the Future: Back the Prairie Center for the Future of the Arts in Schaumburg" to be held on Saturday, September 12 from 7 - 11 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit arts programs for youth and the underserved, as well as the 30th Anniversary Season of Entertainment at the Prairie Center for the Arts. The theme for the evening also marks the 30th Anniversary of the release of movie classic "Back to the Future" and guests are invited to dress in attire from their favorite time period - 1955, 1985 or 2015. The event will include live entertainment, food from Schaumburg's finest restaurants, a cash bar, a silent auction and a bucket raffle.
Richard Marx will entertain Prairie Center audiences on Saturday, September 26. With his talents in performing, song writing, and producing, this Grammy winner will take audiences through his three decade career from first hits like "Right Here Waiting" and "Don't Mean Nothing" to his latest album "Beautiful Goodbye." The only male artist in the history of the Billboard charts to have his first seven singles reach the Top 5 of the Hot 100, Marx describes the new album as, "musically diverse, drawing influences from everything from EDM to Sade to Chopin to Antonio Carlos Jobim."
Exploring different cultures is paramount at the Prairie Center. This year, enjoy music from the Irish Heritage Singers on September 27. This group will perform traditional Irish and Irish American music, including music by contemporary Irish choral composers. Additionally, the Bollywood Masala Orchestra and Dancers of India will present the "Spirit of India" on October, 25. Join them for a lively musical journey from Rajasthan to Mumbai. Travel back to the U.S. for "The Dirty Dozen Brass Band" who will entertain audiences with their "big old music gumbo" and New Orleans-style fun on February 13.
Superstar tributes and film history are highlighted this season, starting on October 3 with "The Four C Notes: Recreating The Music Of Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons" starring former Chicago "Jersey Boys" cast member John Michael Coppola. The lecture hall will welcome "1967: The Tumultuous Sixties Arrive in Hollywood" on October 4, examining three significant movies from 1967 that illustrated the social ferment of the time and shaped the future of Hollywood films. You won't want to miss "Jason Petty in Country Royalty: Musical Tribute to Hank Williams and Patsy Cline" on October 30 as country history is revisited. "A Night to Remember" on February 6th commemorates the jam session among Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley.
The Prairie Center continues to be a memorable part of your holiday traditions with Schaumburg Dance Ensemble's production of The Nutcracker Ballet and the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra and Choir's annual "Presto! Holiday Concert." The Nutcracker will be held over two weekends (December 4-6 and December 11-13). The Presto! Holiday Concert will take place on Saturday, December 19 at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m.
