NCH earns 2015 Patient Safety Excellence Award
Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) has earned a Healthgrades 2015 Patient Safety Excellence Award for its exceptional performance in safeguarding patients against serious and potentially preventable complications during their hospital stays.
The distinction places NCH in the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient safety, as evaluated by Healthgrades, an online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. NCH performed with excellence in providing safety for patients, as measured by objective outcomes for 14 patient safety indicators defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Patients treated in hospitals that received Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Awards were, on average:
• 53.6 percent less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest
• 47.4 percent less likely to experience catheter-related blood stream infections
• 43.9 percent less likely to experience an accidental puncture or laceration during a procedure,
• 43.8 percent less likely to experience pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital
Healthgrades also recognized NCH as a leader in providing quality care to patients. Among its 2015 quality achievements, Healthgrades named NCH:
• Top 5 percent in the nation for gastrointestinal medical treatment
• Five-star recipient for treatment of stroke for 11 years in a row
• Five-star recipient for treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for two years in a row
• Five-star recipient for vaginal deliveries in 2015
• Five-star recipient for hip fracture treatment in 2015
