Mueller CPA partner Brian Sullivan named chair of U.S. Accounting Association

CPA and Management Consulting firm Mueller today announced that partner Brian Sullivan has been elected chair of CPAmerica International's 2015-2016 Accounting and Auditing Executive Committee.

Sullivan was elected to the chair at the accounting association's recently concluded 2015 conference in Austin, Texas.

In his role as chair of the accounting and auditing executive committee, Sullivan will lead staff and association members in planning various training events, workshops and "soft skills" sessions for the year, as well as directing planning for the accounting and auditing conference.

CPAmerica International is an accounting association of independent CPA firms that provides practice management support, continuing education, marketing and online services to members firms. The association represents more than 2,500 CPA professionals in 76 firms across the United States.

In making the announcement, David J. Nissen, managing partner of Mueller, said Sullivan's appointment reflects Mueller's long-standing membership and involvement in the association.

"As a CPAmerica International member for more than 30 years, we've experienced firsthand the invaluable resources provided to independent accounting firms across a wide range of practice areas," Nissen said. "We're delighted with Brian's appointment and know he will advance CPAmerica's mission and drive increased participation at this year's conferences and events."

Sullivan, who served as vice chair on the committee for the 2014-2015 year, said among his goals for 2015-2016 is to develop content offerings that are relevant and beneficial to CPA professionals at all levels of their careers.

"While we will continue to offer continuing education and practice management content to partners and directors, we also intend to address the continuing education needs of managers and staff, as well," Sullivan explained. "And we will also focus on soft skills training and delivering boot camp events for newly minted CPAs."

Sullivan noted that the firm's active involvement in CPAmerica International over the years has resulted in increased business opportunities as member firms typically collaborate to meet specific skills and experience required for client engagements.

"Through the association network members can tap the resources of another member firm in local markets for engagements such as audits or tax services. It's been a great relationship for us and our fellow members across the country and helps build the members' brands," he said.

Sullivan joined Mueller in 1999 and specializes in audit, mergers and acquisitions, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, tax planning and business management strategic planning. He is a member of Mueller's executive committee, leads its audit and assurance department, and is partner in charge of the firm's risk & controls service team.
