Man shot by Crystal Lake officer faces attempted murder charge
An Addison man who was shot by a Crystal Lake police officer after charging at the officer with a knife last week will face additional criminal charges, including one for attempted murder, police said.
Joseph A. Laudicina, 29, entered a home on the 800 block of Boxwood Drive in Crystal Lake on June 22 though he was not authorized to do so, officials said. Having responded to the same home for a report of an “unwanted subject,” a police officer followed Laudicina into the home, authorities said.
While armed with a knife, Laudicina charged at the police officer in a way that was threatening, police said, and the officer shot Laudicina around 1:40 a.m.
Laudicina was charged with attempted murder and residential burglary, officials said.
After a preliminary review of the investigation, which is being handled by Illinois State Police, the McHenry County state's attorney's office approved the charges.
Laudicina's bail for the additional charges was set at $125,000.
Laudicina was also charged last week with home invasion, vehicular invasion and two counts of aggravated domestic battery for a domestic battery that occurred on Boxwood Drive just a few hours before the confrontation with police, officials said.
Operations Cmdr. Thomas Kotlowski, of the Crystal Lake Police Department, said Laudicina's condition is unknown.
Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the shooting, police said.
