Addison man shot by Crystal Lake police officer to face charges

A man who was shot by a Crystal Lake police officer during a domestic dispute early Monday will face criminal charges, officials said Wednesday.

At 11:10 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to the 300 block of Terra Cotta Avenue on a report of a domestic battery. While armed with a knife, Joseph A. Laudicina, 29, struck an adult woman in the face several times, choked her and threatened to kill her, officials said.

Laudicina, of the 1000 block of Fischer Drive in Addison, is charged with home invasion, vehicular invasion and two counts of aggravated domestic battery, according to police.

His bail is set at $300,000.

At 1:35 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the 800 block of Boxwood Drive, where Laudicina charged at an officer with a knife, officials said. The officer shot Laudicina, who was then taken to Centegra Hospital-Woodstock, authorities said.

Laudicina remains hospitalized.

The officer was placed on administrative leave after the shooting, authorities said, and Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Officials said Laudicina may face additional criminal charges.
