Culver's of Schaumburg's May fundraiser raises thousands for local family

Riley Woznicki was all smiles at Culver's of Schaumburg Monday evening as she greeted guests who dined at the restaurant for a fundraiser in her honor. The family of the 6-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, is working toward a goal of $50,000 to purchase a wheelchair-accessible van to accommodate her needs. After two attempts to win a van through the National Mobility contest, Riley lost out in the semifinal round last year.

Since receiving the bad news last June, the Woznicki's have raised nearly $30,000 of their goal. This fundraising effort caught the attention of local Culver's owner Jim DiVerde, who immediately wanted his Wise Rd. restaurant to be involved. With his help rallying the community around Riley's cause, DiVerde hoped to aid in raising that final $20,000.

Throughout the month of May, DiVerde reached out to neighboring Streamwood and Schaumburg businesses to secure support and collect donations, which resulted in several items for a Culver's raffle that raised nearly $1,000 in tickets.

The night of the fundraiser saw a constant line of guests, and altogether Culver's of Schaumburg donated more than $3,000 toward the van fund.

"So many people came out to show their support, and it's no surprise." Said DiVerde. "Riley's smile is contagious, and her loving personality captures your heart immediately. I hope our small part in this mission helps to make the van a reality, because it will truly change her life."
