Bridal web site features suburban vendors

A website that launched about two years ago is expanding into the Chicago and suburban market to help brides arrange less-expensive weddings.

GetWedForLess.com recently started its expansion and now offers about 80 companies and vendors here that are vying for the brides attention, said Lauren Hines, the site's founder and president.

Local vendors include The Bridal Boutique of Naperville, The Dress by Nicole in Wheaton, Veiled by ChaCha in Glen Ellyn, The Seville in Streamwood, Town & Country Gardens in Geneva, Flowers by K.H. in Northbrook, among others.

“I actually launched GetWedForLess.com because the wedding sites available were not helping me shorten time and wedding expenditures as I planned my own wedding a few years ago,” Hines said. “I felt even more overwhelmed because I just didn't know where to start with vendor options when I literally would have to go through several dozen pages that didn't seem to differentiate much between any of the vendors.”

The site, which is based in Atlanta, Georgia, also offers vendors and information in Baltimore, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Miami, New Jersey, New York, Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, San Diego, South Florida and Washington, D.C. Pick the city where you are getting married, and then you can select categories that feature venues, dresses, cakes, florists, photographers, videographers, caterers, jewelry and more.

About 30,000 guests have visited the site and it has about 300 subscribers so far. Subscriptions ranges between $2.41 and $9 per month pending on the plan selected. It costs $29 for one year upfront, she said.

The site provides offerings and prices from vendors, so brides can select who meets their needs and budget, she said.

“The only things left to do are taste the cake and food,” Hines said.

Surfing: Western Springs-based Accelerated Marketing & Sales Inc. launched a blog on non-distressed luxury home auctions for homeowners that want to sell unique homes, hard-to-value homes, or owners who need to sell quickly.

Blog topics include how to evaluate luxury home auctioneers, accelerated marketing, the Chicagoland economy and the housing market, including luxury home sales. Because they impact home sales, international dynamics, local Chinese trade initiatives and population/migration trends are also featured.
