Woman saved by Wilfork pleads not guilty to drunken driving

WRENTHAM, Mass. (AP) - The woman pulled from her crashed vehicle by New England Patriots player Vince Wilfork after the team's AFC Championship victory over the Indianapolis Colts has pleaded not guilty to drunken driving charges.

Mary Ellen Brooks, of Hanson, was released on personal recognizance after her arraignment Tuesday in Wrentham District Court.

Police responded to a rollover in Foxborough not far from Gillette Stadium shortly before 1 a.m. Monday and were surprised to see Wilfork checking on the driver. Police say the 325-pound defensive tackle pulled the 38-year-old Brooks from her vehicle with one hand.

Brooks had attended the Patriots 45-7 victory.

Prosecutors say she had a blood alcohol content of .17. The legal limit to drive in Massachusetts is .08.

Her lawyer said she didn't recognize Wilfork, but is "very grateful that he stopped."
