Harper's Nicholson earns player of the week acclaim
In the Region IV Report released on Monday morning, Harper sophomore Joslyn Nicholson (Cary-Grove) was selected as the NJCAA's Region IV, Div. III Player of the Week.
Nicholson, a 5-foot-10 forward, averaged 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 4.5 steals in two games last week while shooting 79 percent from the free throw line.
She scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in a come-from-behind 70-65 win over Oakton Community College Dec. 9. Nicholson had 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 steals against Kennedy-King College on Dec. 11.
Nicholson is averaging a team-high 21.9 points (12th in nation), 10.8 rebounds (31st in nation) and 2.7 steals in 12 games for the Hawks. She is shooting 76.6 percent (59-of-77) from the free throw line.
• Also on Monday, Admir Suljic picked up his second player of the week award of the season. Last week he was named NJCAA Division III player of the week; most recently he added the same honor from Region IV of the NJCAA.
In two games last week the freshman forward averaged 21 points and 5 rebounds.
Suljic led the Hawks with 24 points in a win over Oakton, and on Saturday against NJCAA Division II school Parkland College in Champaign, he scored 18 points.
Suljic is the Hawks' leading scorer at 16.5 ppg.
