Dundee Township Lions presents Festival of Trees

The Dundee Township Lions presented the Festival of Trees Dec. 5-6 at Grafelman Park in West Dundee. This is a part of Dickens in Dundee celebration.

Twenty-eight trees were decorated by schools, churches and Scout groups on Friday. They were competing for prizes offered by the Lions. As they were decorating, the Lions provided hot chocolate to more than 300 children.

Trees were decorated in recycled material, wildlife decorations and many traditionally decorated trees capturing the spirit of Christmas.

This year, the Lions are doing something different by having the public select their favorite tree (People's Choice Award) by voting on the Dundee Township Lions Facebook page. Voting is from Dec. 7-14, with the winning group receiving $50.

Prizes already awarded by the judge of the contest are: Beauty (Gold, Girl Scout Junior Troop 235; Silver, St. Catherine of Siena Scout Troops); Holiday Spirit (Gold, Griffin Christian School; Silver, Westfield Community School); and Creativity (Gold, deLacey Preschool; Silver, Immanuel Lutheran No. 14).

Each of the entrants also made a significant contribution to the FISH Food Pantry to spread the spirit of giving through the holidays.
