Libertyville Rotary Sunrise, Zengeler Cleaners Team Up For Clothing Drive Supporting U.S. Veterans
Northbrook, IL, September 23, 2014: Libertyville Rotary Sunrise is once again hosting its annual "Coats for Vets" collection drive. The goal is to collect winter coats, jackets and other seasonal apparel for veterans throughout the northern Illinois area. Donations can be given to any member of Libertyville Rotary Sunrise, or dropped off at either of Zengeler Cleaners two Libertyville stores (539 E. Park Avenue and 1401 Peterson Road), the official collection locations for the 2014 drive.
"Far too many veterans face a variety of problems when returning from active duty," said Tom Zengeler, President of Zengeler Cleaners. "Now more than ever, we need to support them. After all, every American owes our way of life thanks to the service of our vets. With continuous unrest on the international front, that means we have a new group of veterans returning home every month - many in desperate need of jobs, food, clothing and housing. 'Coats for Vets' is a great opportunity to show our appreciation in a very meaningful way."
While the drive is called "Coats For Vets," all types of clothing are welcomed, according to Zengeler. "In addition to coats and jackets, veterans also need blankets, gloves, hats and other seasonal apparel. This is a great time to look through your closet and donate items you may no longer need. We welcome all types of donations and with the help of generous individuals in the community, we're confident this year's drive will again be a huge success."
Zengeler Cleaners' initial delivery of items will be in time for 2014 "Stand Down" day," held locally this year on Tuesday, October 21st. Stand Downs are one part of the Department of Veterans Affairs' efforts to provide services to homeless Veterans, providing services to homeless Veterans such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and referrals to a variety of other necessary services, such as health care, housing, employment, and substance use treatment. Stand Downs are collaborative events, coordinated between local VAs, other government agencies, and community agencies serving the homeless.
Donations will be accepted through Friday, October 31st. Once the donations are gathered, the Zengeler team will inspect, repair as needed and clean every single item. Next, Zengeler Cleaners will deliver the renewed items to the VA Hospital in time for Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.
