Hersey Marching Band Wins Honors at Lake Park Joust Competition
The John Hersey High School Marching Band captured several honors Saturday, Sept. 13, at the 36th annual Lake Park Joust Marching Band Competition at Lake Park High School in Roselle.
The band received a top award for Outstanding Music Performance among the 18 marching bands in the competition. This award is given to the band judged to have the best tone quality and intonation, musical accuracy and definition, and musicality, which includes the demonstration of expressions, dynamics, phrasing, and interpretation. The Hersey Marching Band also took fifth place in the overall marching band competition in the Finals and third place in the Class AAA Preliminaries.
The theme for the marching band's 2014 performance season is, "What Makes a True Warrior? A Question for the Common Man." The musical selections include Homage to Perotin, Three Japanese Dances, Xerxes, and Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man.
The John Hersey High School Marching Band consists of 150 musicians and color guard members. The Director is Scott Casagrande. Drum Majors are Maribeth Broms, Paul Kim and Angela Kucharski. The band's next competition will take place Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Prospect Knight of Champions at Prospect High School in Mount Prospect.
