The Wheaton Municipal Band Moves Indoors

The Wheaton Municipal Band performs indoors on Saturday, August 2 at 8:00 p.m. at Edman Chapel at Wheaton College (this is not a function of Wheaton College). Loyal members of the audience look forward to hearing the Wheaton Municipal Band indoors because of the acoustics. Along with the band's acclaimed performance and beloved music director, Dr. Bruce Moss, the concert features Chicago personality Wayne Messimer.

Messmer is known as the voice of the Chicago Cubs. This year celebrates the 100-year anniversary of Wrigley Field. On April 23, 1914, the ballpark at the corner of Clark and Addison in Chicago made its debut. First known as Weegham Park and then Cubs Park, Wrigley Field has served as home to the Chicago National League Baseball Team and remains an iconic monument for baseball fans across the country. But the voice of the National Anthem that many fans have heard over the years belongs to Mesmer. He not only has sung at Cub's games, but White Sox, Bears, and Black Hawk's games as well. Mesmer is known for his rich voice and bubbling personality. He has been heard on the radio since the 1980's on WYTZ Radio's "The Barsky Morning Show", and currently hosts a jazz radio program, The Wayne Messmer Radio Show on 90.0 fm WDCB Public Radio.

With the Wheaton Municipal Band sharing the stage, Mesmer will narrate the classic, Casey at Bat, sing the beautiful, The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha, and belt out Broadway favorites. Not to be outdone, the band plays a program filled with music of the masters. On of which is Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. This amazing work fills the rafters with sound, as each of the band's 100 members adds to the reverberations. The Finale from Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony is also on the Program. Always an audience favorite, the band transcription is a standard in the concert band repertoire. Of course classic marches ring out as the band closes out the program.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear Wayne Messmer and The Wheaton Municipal Band indoors at Edman Chapel at Wheaton College, on Saturday, August 2 at 8:00 p.m. The concert is FREE.
