Driver, horse escape truck fire on Elgin-O'Hare

A fire damaged a pickup truck hauling a horse Saturday afternoon on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway near Roselle, authorities said.

The driver removed the horse from a trailer, and both stood on the shoulder of westbound lanes, just east of Roselle Road, before emergency crews arrived shortly after 4 p.m., Roselle firefighter Matt Coppock said.

There were no injuries.

The truck fire shut down one westbound lane until firefighters extinguished the blaze, Illinois State Police Trooper Clark Nabriet said.

Units from the Elk Grove Village Fire Department also responded.

Roselle investigators are probing the cause of the fire.
