Boomers collect pair of wins
WASHINGTON, Pa. - Justin Vasquez's solo home run in the top of the ninth inning helped power the Schaumburg Boomers to a 1-0 win over the first-place Washington Wild Things in the completion of a suspended game Thursday night. The Boomers completed the Frontier League sweep with a 4-3 victory in eight innings in the nightcap.
Hunter Ackerman came on for Seth Webster, who had pitched 4 hitless innings Wednesday. Ackerman tacked on 3 more hitless innings for the Boomers (13-11). Heith Hatfield picked up the win and Dexter Price earned a save.
In the second game, the Boomers trailed 1-0 in the third inning when Sean Mahley delivered an RBI triple and Tyler Sciacca doubled home a run. Sciacca added another run in the top of the fourth to extend the Boomers' lead to 3-1.
In the top of the eighth, Mark Nelson drew a leadoff walk, was sacrificed to second, moved to third on an error and scored on Michael Valadez's sacrifice fly to give the Boomers a 4-3 lead.
Reliever James Bierlein earned the win, and Price nailed down his second save of the day.
