Illinois Fencers Club Holds Largest All Epee Tournament in Region

The Illinois Fencers Club (IFC) held its 2014 Dominick Epee Challenge at Lions Recreation Center on Sunday, April 27th, 2014. This time again, the event was the Chicago area's largest epee only fencing tournament drawing a record number of fencers - 112 - from ten states. The tournament included competitions for Senior Women's Epee, Senior Mixed Epee, Mixed Team Epee, and Y12 (aged 12 and under) Mixed Epee. This year, Christine Dominick, whom the tournament is named after for her outstanding contributions to IFC, participated in the event.

In the Y-12 Mixed Epee event, IFC fencers Peter Kulaga and Geeta Jhangiani took gold and silver medals respectively.

The IFC team comprised of Zimo Zhu, Jack Gillman and Jakub Nowak captured the gold medal in the Mixed Team Event, in which eight teams participated.

In the Senior Mixed Epee, which featured strong competition from 83 fencers, including many nationally ranked fencers, IFC's Zimo Zhu won a bronze medal earning his USFA A rating (the highest awarded nationally) in the process.

The Illinois Fencers Club promotes and teaches the Olympic sport of fencing to students of all ages and skill levels and provides a friendly venue for members to practice their sport. It is a member operated non-for-profit sports association that has been serving beginning, recreational, and competitive fencers for more than 40 years.
