Children's author educates, entertains students at Butterfield School

Children's author Aaron Reynolds used his acting talent to educate and entertain students about the world of writing and book publishing during a presentation Wednesday at Butterfield Elementary School in Libertyville.

The Fox River Grove author has published 28 books since 2004, including his first, "Chicks and Salsa," and most recent, "Here Comes Destructosaurus."

Reynolds' books have been on The New York Times best-seller list and won the Caldecott Medal award.

"I love that I get to do it," Reynolds said. "No one tells you that you speak at schools when you get published. It has become one of the favorite parts of the job - spending time at schools with the kids."

Most of the students have read his books and laughed as he told stories about how he got into writing and how his stories were created.

"He is very detailed and very funny," first-grader Alex Brown said after watching the show. "I read 'Creepy Carrots' and 'Chicks and Salsa.' I like them because he is very creative."
