Schaumburg mayor to lead bike to work event
Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson will lead his village's annual ride to work at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 16 to mark Bike to Work Week. The event focuses attention on cycling as a viable travel alternative while encouraging people to reduce automobile usage.
The route will begin at the Meineke Recreation Facility's bike path at 220 E. Weathersfield Way. From there, participants will ride to Beech Drive, east on Beech to Abrahamsen Park, through the park to Summit, and north to the bike path entrance on the municipal center grounds.
Schaumburg now has 90 miles of bike path, 1,000 bike parking rack and locker spaces, bicycle racks on village trolleys, parking at the Metra station and Northwest Transportation Center, a community-based bicycle club and links to all neighboring villages.
