Variety of Children's Programs Coming to Schaumburg Township District Library

Comedy, magic, stories and more are coming in April and May to the kidsZone of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. Upcoming programs and events are designed for various age groups, ranging from age 3 to 14 years.

For kids in the 5 to 14 age group, the library is holding a Bookmark Design Contest for the summer reading program theme, "Explore New Worlds." Children can pick up a contest form in the Central Library kidsZone or Hanover Park or Hoffman Estates branches, then return their submission by May 15. Winning bookmarks will be printed and distributed at the library during the summer.

The "Caricature and Comedy Show" for ages 5 and up will be held from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and repeated from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18 in the library's Rasmussen Room. Audience members will be treated to comedy punctuated with extra-large drawings and music. The program combines learning with fun as audience members watch artist Bill Begos create art before their eyes. Free limited tickets will be distributed in the kidsZone 20 minutes prior to each show.

The Moogician will perform a non-stop, quick moving, high-energy show for ages 3 and from 4-4:45 p.m., Monday, April 21 in Program Room 1. Children will learn about dairy through magic, comedy and banjo "moo-sic." This is a family-fun, drop-in program that does not require registration.

El Día Storytime for ages infant through 5-years-old will take place from 10:30 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, at the Hoffman Estates Branch, 1550 Hassell Rd. Children and parents or caregivers are invited to join the library on Children's Day/Book Day for a special Storytime including stories and music. Día celebrates children, families and reading while emphasizing the importance of literacy for children of all cultural backgrounds. Children and adult caregivers may attend this drop-in program together.

Author and Illustrator Kevin Luthardt will discuss the process of making books with children ages 6 to 14 from 4-5 p.m., Monday, May 5, in the library's Rasmussen Room. Luthardt will present his new book, When Edgar Met Cecil, and share sketches, storyboards, and an interactive drawing demonstration. A book sale and signing will follow this drop-in presentation.

Children ages 3 to 6 may discover the magic in picture books during "Magical Storytime" from 10 to 10:30 a.m. or 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19 in Program Room 1. Participants will listen to a story and enjoy silly magic tricks presented by magician "The Great Scott." This is an interactive drop-in program.
