Tri-Cities AFS-USA volunteers give back during World's Largest Service Event

AFS-USA's Northern Illinois Area Team is proud to announce its participation in the AFS National Day of Service on April 12.

Exchange students, local area volunteers, host families and siblings will be packing food at the Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva on Saturday, April 12 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

The Northern Illinois Area Team is a network of local volunteers from St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia that support the work of AFS-USA, an international nonprofit high school student exchange organization. Northern Illinois has been involved with AFS for over 40 years and has sent approximately 1000 students abroad and welcomed more than 3,000 high school students from other countries.

The project is one of dozens that AFS volunteers, host families and students across the nation organized to celebrate AFS National Day of Service and international exchange by giving back to their communities. Working in conjunction with the Global Youth Service weekend, the AFS National Day of Service is part of the largest service event in the world, and also corresponds with National Volunteer Week, a nationwide celebration of selfless giving.
