Westmont man charged in Lisle armed robbery
A 25-year-old Westmont man is facing felony charges in connection with an armed robbery last month at a Lisle grocery store.
Dean McKenna, of 35 W. 66th St., has been charged with one count of armed robbery, one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, one count of battery and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. On Friday morning, a judge set McKenna's bond at $350,000. McKenna was being held at the DuPage County jail.
Authorities allege that McKenna entered the Aldi on the 5500 block of Route 53 at 2:35 p.m. Jan. 20 and took money from an open cash register drawer.
Prosecutors said in a statement that McKenna approached a store clerk and asked if she could give him change for a larger denomination bill. As the clerk opened the cash register drawer, McKenna pointed a pellet gun into the clerk's side, prosecutors said.
A total of $1,046 was taken from the drawer. Nobody was injured in the robbery.
Lisle police arrested McKenna on Wednesday. McKenna was found with heroin and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin reacted to the allegations against McKenna in a written statement.
“Robbing someone who is trying to make an honest living at gunpoint will not be tolerated and will be met with the full force of the law,” Berlin said.
