Free Lecture Addresses Question of Suffering in World

First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights will host a free Hot Topic lecture on “God, Suffering, & Evil,” Wednesday, January 29 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Guest speaker Rev. Dr. Anna Case-Winters will address the age-old question that still perplexes us: If God is good and all-powerful, why is there so much suffering and evil in the world? Recent atrocities and calamities, such as the Newtown massacre and recent typhoon in the Philippines, sharpen this question for us. How can people of faith understand and cope with these events in the light of God's presence in the world? This presentation will address these questions and discuss ways to seek God's healing and comfort when tragedies happen. Free child care will be available by reservation. Contact Rev. Beth Freese Dammers at 847-255-5900.

Case-Winters is professor of theology at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, an ordained Presbyterian minister, author of three books, and past president of the American Theological Society, Midwest Division. First Presbyterian Church is at 302 N. Dunton Ave., Arlington Heights, just south of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library.
