BMO Harris Bank, Chicago Bulls honor veterans as 'honorary captains'

BMO Harris Bank, in partnership with the Chicago Bulls, have recognized United States Navy Veteran Phillip Sweeney and his uncle, United States Army Veteran John McCaffrey, through the bank's “Military Moments” program.

The two service members were publicly honored at the November 16, 2013 Chicago Bulls game for their military accomplishments and service.

The bank's "Military Moments" program recognizes local veterans during the opening ceremony of a Chicago Bulls game. After taking part in the "Honorary Captains meeting" with the referees and the team captains, the veterans are featured on the United Center's scoreboard and participate in the singing of the National Anthem.

"For the past two years, we've placed local veterans at center court, bringing to light their unwavering commitment and sacrifice to serving our country through our 'Military Moments' program," said Chris McComish, Executive Vice President, Retail Banking & Co-Head of N.A. Specialized Sales, BMO Harris Bank, and Executive Sponsor of the bank's Veterans Advisory Council. "The program, in partnership with the Chicago Bulls, gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and honor veterans like Phillip and John who are true heroes in our communities."

McHenry resident Phillip Sweeney served in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1981 in Okinawa and Italy as a Navy FMF Corpsman. Sweeney now works for BMO Harris Bank as a Mortgage Banker.

Roselle resident John McCaffrey served in the United States Army 70th Infantry Division from 1942 to 1946 and participated in the 1944 Battle of the Bulge.
