Church to host a Fair Trade Marketplace with Ten Thousand Villages
Arlington Heights, Illinois – On Nov. 30 through Dec. 1, iIn collaboration with Ten Thousand Villages, Congregational United Church of Christ, 1001 W. Kirchoff Road in Arlington Heights, will host a Fair Trade Marketplace featuring handmade items.
Established in 1946, Ten Thousand Villages is one of the world's oldest and largest fair trade organizations. The company works closely with artisans throughout Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East to secure a living wage for goods produced in earth-friendly ways.
This holiday season, Ten Thousand Villages and Congregational United Church of Christ are coming together to make a variety of handcrafted items available to savvy shoppers in the Northwest suburbs. The selection of handmade products and one-of-a-kind gifts includes jewelry, home decor, toys, and more. Proceeds from the sale of these items will help provide food, education, healthcare, and housing for the artisans and their families.
The Fair Trade Marketplace offers local shoppers a unique opportunity to promote a world economy that empowers artisans. As CUCC event coordinator Gail Link observes, “We value our partnership with Ten Thousand Villages because we know that the talented people who make the beautiful items are receiving fair payment for their efforts.”
Shop the Fair Trade Marketplace at Congregational United Church of Christ (1001 W. Kirchoff Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60005) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, and noon to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 1. Cash, check, and credit cards are accepted.
