Emily Dickinson Portrayal at the Byron Colby Barn
History comes alive at the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake with “I Dwell in Possibility: An Intimate Evening with Emily Dickinson” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17. Experience an entertaining and educational portrayal of reclusive poet Emily Dickinson, adapted and performed by Betsey Means of Womanlore: Performing Women in History (www.womanlore.com).
Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) is regarded as one of the greatest American poets. She wrote poetry of tremendous power, questioning the nature of immortality and death. Through nature and life, Emily was able to glimpse into a mystic dimension beyond worldly distractions. Fewer than a dozen of her nearly 1800 poems were published during her lifetime. Her first volume was published in 1890, four years after her death, and her work has remained continuously in print for almost 125 years.
WomanLore brings powerful women of bygone eras to life, allowing them to live again in the moment. Performances are adapted directly from journals, autobiographies, and personal writings. Audiences enjoy a complete theatrical experience, authentically costumed and accurately evoking a bygone era. Actor Betsey Means educates and entertains as she presents the experiences and impassioned opinions of historical figures in the style of their time and place.
Admission is $10 per person at the door only, cash or check. The Byron Colby Barn is located at 1561 Jones Point Road in Grayslake, inside the Prairie Crossing conservation community.
