My Big Fat Greek Restaurant closes
Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens said yesterday village officials are interviewing restaurant owners who are interested in the location of My Big Fat Greek Restaurant, which closed earlier this month after less than a year in business. The restaurant opened in the village-owned 200,000-square-foot MB Financial Park on the east side of the Tri-State Tollway near Balmoral Avenue, but it couldn’t recover from a full start. Full story.
District 214 will form committee to discuss surplus funds
Northwest Suburban High School District 214 is creating a committee to discuss how to spend some of its extra money. The school board last year approved a position paper that states if the district’s reserves are more than 55 percent of the district’s operating budget, a committee will be established to consider capital project expenditures. Menards leaving Mundelein; is it later entering Vernon Hills?
Menards in Mundelein closes for good this Friday, but it isn’t planning to go too far. The home improvement store has proposed a new two-story, 223,775-square-foot store in neighboring Vernon Hills north of Gregg’s Parkway and west of Route 21 (Milwaukee Avenue) in the Gregg’s Landing north commercial area. South Elgin man injured in hit-and-run
A vehicle struck and seriously injured a South Elgin man Sunday night while he attempted to cross the street with his family in Elgin, police said yesterday. The crash happened on National Street just east of the Fox River Bridge. The vehicle is described as a burgundy and gray Dodge Dakota. Full story.
Suburban native and lifelong weirdo Diablo Cody directs ‘Paradise’
A self-professed outsider, Lemont native Diablo Cody has embraced her weirdness and turned it into a nice career as she makes her directorial debut with “Paradise,” which opens Friday at the Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg. Cody wrote the 2007 hit “Juno.” Full story.
Geneva approves a public art bike rack
The Geneva City Council approved a new bike rack last night that will also serve as public art. The new piece will be paid for by the city’s Cultural Arts Commission. It will hold six bicycles. Full story.
