Artist’s ‘Huescapes’ recall beauty of nature
North Central College is showcasing works by artist Michael Fowler in the exhibit “Recent Huescapes.”
The free exhibit continues through Thursday, Nov. 7, in the college’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville. A reception with the artist is 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 7.
According to art enthusiast Sister Wendy Beckett, each of us is touched at some point by the “silent beauty of the natural world.”
Fowler’s artistic response in contemplating nature is to capture something of landscape’s pleasantness, which in this case is the often-unexpected harmonies of color and shape of a landscape.
Quite frequently, between Fowler’s encounters with nature and working with paint, something he had never realized before about the landscape becomes clear. Often the act of painting and contemplating the product consists of insights and feelings, which can have no verbal explanation.
Fowler’s artistic experiences with paint remind us that seeing comes before words and that art reaches beyond the verbal and gives form to the emotional.
