Kirk Players will open its 48th season with the classic but seldom seen Agatha Christie whodunit “The Hollow” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Mundelein High School Theatre.

“This show will deliver edgy suspense, romance, sweet humor and shock, all delivered up by a terrific script and very dedicated cast and crew,” said Kat Basso, director for the troupe’s opening show.

“The audience will enjoy the rich British ambience of a masterfully crafted set with all the authentic early ’50s detail, thanks to my gifted crew. We’ve had a lot of fun becoming a genuine British aristocratic family with all the drippings.”

An unhappy game of romantic “Follow My Lead” explodes into shocking murder one weekend at The Hollow, home of Sir Henry (Mike Lieberman) and Lucy Angkatell (Gretchen Grassl).

Dr. John Christow (Charley Pippenger) is at the center of the trouble, for at The Hollow are his mistress, Henrietta (Lisa Soare); his ex-mistress, Veronica (Meghan Lane); and wife, Gerda (Jessica Stowe).

To further complicate matters, also present is Edward (James Torbeck), who is in love with Henrietta, and Midge (Marilee CC Wald), who is in love with Edward.

Veronica ardently desires to marry John Christow, and although she succeeds in re-opening their affair, he refuses to divorce his wife. At this point, Veronica unwisely threatens that if she cannot have him, no one else shall.

Within minutes, a shocking murder takes place, where everyone has a motive and the opportunity, including the butler, Gudgeon (Patrick Blake).

Who actually did the murder must be discovered by the Inspector (Jon Matousek) and the Sergeant (Nick Huebner). Even the maid, Doris (Katryna Jukneviciute) adds to the mystery.

Helping Basso manage the troupe are assistant directors Anna Lieberman and Brian Motyka, and assistant stage manager Annette Gibson. The crew is made up of technical director Patrick Blake, set designer Brenda Sparks, costume designer Fred Vipond, property mistress Fran Hansen, sound design Martin Hill, lighting design Chuck Fitz-Hugh and house manager Bev Johnson.
