Judge sets Sept. 16 hearing in NIU murder case
The attorney for a man who is in prison for killing a Northern Illinois University student says it wasn’t his client’s fault he missed a deadline to appeal his 37-year sentence.
Dan Transier represents 36-year-old William Curl, who is accused of killing Plainfield native Antinette “Toni” Keller in October 2010. Her burned body was found in a park two days after she disappeared. Keller was a graduate of Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville.
The Daily Chronicle reported a judge on Thursday set a Sept. 16 hearing to determine if Curl should have more time to withdraw his guilty plea.
Curl entered the plea agreement on April 3. He had 30 days to request it be undone. However he didn’t file until July 22 — 108 days later. Curl has said he didn’t have the resources to file on time.
