Female baseball players cross bats In reunion exhibition games
The crack of the bat will again ring at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 7 at Central Park West in Oak Brook, IL, as female baseball players showcase their love of the game in a two game exhibition series helping to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League.
To lend authenticity to the games, the Hoosier Bat Company of Valparaiso, IN donated wood bats for the series. According to series organizer John Kovach, the use of the wood bats will serve a couple of purposes. “It will be great to watch an amateur baseball game with players who are all swinging wood bats,” said Kovach. “The movement the last couple of years to the BBCOR standard for metal bats has reignited the interest in wood bats as a viable option for players. This series will give the female players the chance to for an experience that they may never have had,” he went on to add.
Established in 1991, Hoosier Bat is the third-largest manufacturer of regulation-quality wood bats in the world that are used by major and minor league baseball players.
Players in this exhibition series will be from the United States and Australia. Last weekend, the Aussie Hearts participated in a Labor Day weekend women's baseball tournament in Rockford, Il which helped rededicate the Beyer Stadium Field site where the Rockford Peaches of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League once played.
