Enjoy Sept. 21 harvest moon bonfire at Spring Valley

Enjoy a fall bonfire at Spring Valley!

Schaumburg Park District will hold the Harvest Moon Bonfire from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 21 at Volkening Heritage Farm at Spring Valley, 201 S. Plum Grove Road. Participants can celebrate the harvest moon, the first full moon of autumn, by taking a wagon ride through Spring Valley, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire and enjoying a lantern-lit tour of the farm.

“Early farmers to the area used the extra light from the rising moon to plant crops,” said Patty Green, program coordinator at Spring Valley’s Heritage Farm. “The setting sun and rising moon made it easier for farmers to prepare for winter.”

Admission to the program is $7 per person. Children ages 3 and younger are free. Additional parking will be available at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1001 E. Schaumburg Road, which is located just north of the Heritage Farm.
