Poll Vault: How many holidays do you get at work?

Will Labor Day be just another Monday for you?

For workers in restaurants, retail and other sectors, it's not a holiday, although they might receive time and a half.

It is technically a holiday at the Daily Herald, but we'll still put out a paper and edit the website, just as we do every day. I'll be among the skeleton crew that's working Monday.

The federal government observes 10 holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you're a state worker in Illinois, you also get Lincoln's Birthday and the day after Thanksgiving.

What's the situation at your workplace? How many holidays do you get? If you work a holiday, do you get extra pay?
