Lisle Township Food Pantry's Summer Harvest

Lisle Township Food Pantry's “ Summer Harvest”

It is hard to believe that a first year garden can produce such a tremendous amount of food. I am not a gardener so when the garden was started in May and I saw the neat little rows of plants I never dreamed that those tiny plants would produce so much so quickly.

Thanks to the knowledge and hard work of Nancy Tarulis and her group of volunteers the food pantry has received over 300 pounds of tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, peas and squash. I am waiting for the corn, but have been told that the racoons will most likely beat us to it.

All produce goes directly to the food pantry and is distributed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the 11 a.m. non-perishable food distribution for township residents who are in need.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the picking of beans, tomatoes, onions and other vegetables can contact Lisle Township at 630-968-2087. Now, as in the past any gardener with spare produce can drop their extra harvest off at the township (4711 Indiana Avenue, Lisle, IL 60532) Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Lisle Township's caring community will enable our pantry to assist scores of people who are trying to meet their families' needs.
