Why should Congress get a better deal?

On Aug. 7, I went to see Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth at the Streamwood Community Health Center for her “Congress at Your Corner.” She had eight people with her. I asked one of her aides from her Washington, D.C., office what she thought of Congress and the head of the IRS wanting to get out of Obamacare. She said that she had not heard anything about those issues, contrary to what Nancy Pelosi said about the congressional staffers being the best and the brightest.

The very next day, the problem of Congress not wanting to be on Obamacare was solved! Because of an amendment that Sen. Grassley (R-Iowa) put in the Affordable Care Act, all members of Congress, their families, and their staffers had to enter the insurance exchanges. Some Republicans felt that if Obamacare would become a law, passed by the Democrats and no Republicans, Congress should be included. Since no one read the 2,700 pages in the bill and they were so eager to pass it, the Democrats were very upset when they found this out and claimed that it was unfair for them, their families, and their staffers to be included in the exchanges like the rest of us!

After President Obama told the Democrats not to worry, the Office of Personnel Management ruled that the 535 members of Congress, their families and thousands of their staffers would receive federal subsidies to help them purchase health care under the Obamacare exchange programs. The Democrats wanted Obamacare, and now the taxpayers are going to pay up to 75 percent of their health care cost for members of Congress, their families and staffers. They have thumbed their noses at us and have shown that they think they are better than the people who elected them. Where is our subsidy?
