CVS Caremark’s built-out facility in Mount Prospect offers customer care and prescription fulfillment nationwide. Here’s how it was done:

ŸInvestment: $67 million with the help of 59 Illinois-based businesses.

ŸWorkforce: 400 full-time workers with the capacity for 500, working multiple shifts, 7 days a week. About 30 licensed pharmacists on site.

ŸFacility: 150,000 square feet, the equivalent to 4 football fields; 1½ miles of conveyors; 90 percent of orders dispensed by automation; 80 percent of orders packed with automation.

ŸCapacity: 50 million prescriptions filled annually.

ŸEnvironment: 30 percent less waste due to higher use of original manufacturing packaging; outboard packaging all recyclable using no foam; full recycling program for plastics and corrugated cardboard.
