Accretive Health employees donate children's clothing to community

As part of its ongoing commitment to philanthropic activities in the communities it serves, Chicago-based Accretive Health employees founded an organization dedicated to charitable giving, with Accretive Health, Inc., providing an initial financial endowment. Accretive Helping Hands was launched in December 2012 as an exciting new way for Accretive Health's 1,750 U.S. employees to extend their volunteerism. Accretive Helping Hands helps patients and their families navigate the difficulties encountered after treatment by partnering with community healthcare and social work providers.

Most recently, in conjunction with Accretive Helping Hands, Accretive Health employees hosted a golf outing to benefit the Nebo Health Fair, an event sponsored by Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, Utah. The annual health fair serves a farming community in the Nebo School District and offers free basic health and dental checkups.

A feature at the health fair is to identify the basic needs of area children. This year, children in need were provided free books, underwear and socks. “We were told by the community benefit director that the children often have no underwear or socks,” said Jana Anderson, senior operations lead at Accretive Health. “Our goal was to provide a pair of underwear and socks for each child.”

Kye Miner, community benefit manager for Intermountain Healthcare aligned Accretive Health employees with the Nebo Health Fair service opportunity. “The Accretive Health employees came to me asking how they could help,” Miner said. “This donation means so much to the children of many migrant workers. They love all the bright and fun neon colors and are thrilled with the ability to make their own choices!”

“At Accretive Health, we are taking a very grass roots approach to our volunteer work,” said Chris Hartemayer, a senior manager at Accretive Health. “We have the people in place across the country and we are looking forward to assisting patients in the communities where they live and work.”
