Take a Stand for Turning Point begins Friday
Turning Point hosts the 8th Annual Take a Stand for Turning Point along with Star 105.5 personalities who will be broadcasting live from the parking lot at Sam’s Club, 5670 Route 14, in Crystal Lake, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16 and 17.
Community members are asked to stop in or call to make a donation to McHenry County’s only comprehensive domestic violence agency and shelter.
Friday morning begins with Coffee with Joe and Tina from the Star 105.5 morning show, kids and adult Zumba provided by The Underground Fitness Club with story time for children, and a concert by actor and musician Tyler Hilton.
Afternoon Playtime with Molly J from Star 105.5 includes jump ropes, cookies, chalk, balls and jacks. There will be bingo for all ages with prizes, including Subway, Flowerwood and Running Depot gift certificates. An unofficial Baggo tournament, music until after dark and a board game marathon overnight also are planned.
On Saturday, Turning Point hosts Take a Hike for Turning Point, a noncompetitive one-mile walk.
After the walk, there will be a Family Fun Fair with games, activities and prizes for kids of all ages, as well as performances by local groups throughout the afternoon, along with the Crystal Lake Police Canine Unit.
Take a Stand for Turning Point also includes a Stuff the Truck clothing drive. The drive will accept a variety of used clothing, including for men, women and children and maternity clothes, as well as shoes, coats, hats, purses, belts and gloves. Clean household linens, sheets and blankets, towels, curtains and small area rugs will also be accepted.
Clothing should be placed in large garbage bags and brought to the white tent set up in Sam’s Club parking lot, directly in front of the gas station. Volunteers will help unload clothes from vehicles. Remove clothing from hangers and bag all items. Items do not have to be in usable condition.
Turning Point will make 10 cents for every pound donated. The items are recycled by Chicago Textile Recycling. People with questions about the clothing drive can call Betsy Cosgray at (815) 338-8081.
