Fink named Wauconda’s interim administrator
With ex-Village Administrator Zaida Torres on leave, Wauconda trustees on Monday named Public Works Director Brad Fink to fill the post on an interim basis.
Torres left village hall before the close of business July 30, a few hours after meeting with Mayor Frank Bart. She hasn’t been fired, Bart told the Daily Herald on Monday, nor has she resigned.
Trustees unanimously approved Fink’s temporary promotion without any debate during Monday’s meeting. He promptly recited the oath of office and then retook his usual seat before the board’s dais.
Fink, of Wauconda, started working for the village in January. He previously had served as assistant public works director in Deerfield, a post he had held for six years.
The circumstances of Torres’ departure remain mysterious. She has not responded to interview requests, and Bart hasn’t shared many details.
Bart criticized Torres’ abilities during his mayoral campaign, and he targeted her for reassignment once he was elected in April. Bart had said he would let her remain the village’s finance director, but that changed last week.
Torres has worked for the village since 2004. She was named interim village administrator in October 2012 and was awarded the job the following month.
Torres simultaneously served as finance director, and she has left that job, too, Bart said.
Two temporary employees are jointly serving as finance director, he said Monday.
Torres has two weeks to declare her employment intentions, Bart said.
