Leaders from Northwest suburban communities along the Des Plaines River met yesterday and agreed to push along a project in Wheeling’s Heritage Park. Several communities believe work on Levee 37 created more flooding within their own communities this year. Full story.

About 50 Lake Zurich residents attended a village board meeting last night calling for more assistance after last week’s flooding. About 6.6 inches of rain fell on the community June 26. The village board started to offer help by cutting permit fees. Full story.
Bensenville man gets 6 years for stealing car with child in it
A Bensenville man was sentenced yesterday to six years in prison for stealing a car with an 18-month-old girl in the back seat. When Adan Ozuna realized there was a child in the back seat, he ditched the car in a friend’s driveway, leaving the child outside in 20-degree weather for more than six hours. Full story.

Bensenville rape victim confronts attacker
Seventeen years after a Bensenville woman awoke to a knife against her throat and a pillowcase over her head, the woman testified yesterday that she still suffers from panic attacks and nightmares. Kurt Serzen was convicted of attacking the woman in 1996. He faces a maximum of 60 years in prison. Full story.
Lake Villa twins died of overdoses
Twin brothers found in their Lake Villa home last week died of overdoses, Coroner Thomas Rudd said. Eugene and John Meek, 25, had been dead for a few days before their bodies were discovered. Dental records were used to identify the bodies. Full story.
