Beautification plan is just irresponsible
I read and reread the article in the June 20 Daily Herald that told about the Schaumburg trustees agreeing with staff recommendations to add decorative lighting fixtures, railings, and columns to the bridges for an estimated cost of $930,000. This is to be funded by a, as yet, non-existent TIF.
TIF or not, this a plan to spend close to $1 million dollars on two bridges to make them adhere to Schaumburg appearance standards. Why don’t they change the standards, save the money and lower the property tax? That tax was needed because these same Schaumburg officials chose to ignore the economic downturn and spend money as if there was no downturn. Schaumburg officials are as bad as our state officials in spending money they do not have because they know they can continue to have property tax income.
I guess we citizens of Schaumburg are supposed to be mollified because the trustees rejected a plan to add planters and flowers at an the cost of an additional $70,000. They represent fiscal irresponsibility and arrogance at its worst.
