Volunteer Opportunity to Help the Needy Children

The Humanitarian Service Project in Carol Stream is searching for volunteers to help in its warehouse on July 10th and August 7th. The summer program of HSP's entitled Feed the Kids (FTK) is coming up quickly and HSP needs volunteers to help sort the tons of food that will be distributed to needy families within DuPage and Kane counties.

The Feed the Kids program supplies 100 families (approximately 400 children) with 175 lbs of nutritious groceries during the summer months each June, July, and August. During the summer, many of the families lack access to nutritious food because they can no longer rely on the subsidized lunches they received during the school year. Feed the Kids helps to supply the families with food once a month in order to fill that void.

The food will be distributed to families on July 10 and August 7 and volunteers are greatly needed; our volunteer slots in June are full. There are two shifts that volunteers can work: 9am-2pm or 1pm-6:30pm. Volunteers will either help in the warehouse sorting food, at the dock loading food into the families' cars, or outside greeting families as they come in to pick up 175 pounds of non-perishable, fresh produce and frozen meat. Each month, all the families receive a selection of 15 varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables, 3 boxes of non-perishables weighing 25 pounds each, 7 kinds of frozen meats, 3 loaves of Pepperidge Farm bread. Any volunteer who can help with FTK will know they're making a difference and having a positive effect in the lives of hundreds of local children!
