NRA represents millions of voters
In her recent letter, Linda Dickey gets it all wrong. First, she refers to “gun fanatics” and says most gun owners wouldn’t mind “common sense” gun control. “Common sense” would dictate that if gun crime is plummeting as gun ownership is sky rocketing, perhaps guns aren’t the problem.
But more importantly, she suggests reminding lawmakers that you will vote on whether they represent “you or the NRA.” She, like many, views the NRA as some mysterious entity that goes around intimidating everyone. The NRA is an organization of like-minded people. Without its members, the NRA has no influence. The reason legislators listen to the NRA is because they know that the NRA represents millions of voters. The legislators aren’t influenced by “the NRA.” They’re influenced by the people — the voters — who comprise the NRA. That’s exactly how it’s supposed to work.
