Bowen gets it goin’ for Grayslake North
Known for her defense and speed, Grayslake North senior shortstop Jordyn Bowen showed off her power Thursday.
The Northern Illinois recruit belted 2 solo home runs from the leadoff spot in the batting order to lead the Knights to a 6-1 win over host Grayslake Central in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division action.
Sarah Littleton and Nikki Livengood also homered for Grayslake North. Littleton earned the complete-game win, striking out four, walking two and allowing 5 hits. Besides Bowen, Kayla Switalla and Kelsey Borders also had 2 hits apiece for the Knights.
Anna Strickland and Brittany Brown each stroked a pair of hits for Grayslake Central. The Rams’ Juliana Frusolone had a double.
Stevenson 11, Lakes 7: The Patriots scored 8 runs in the top of the first inning en route to the North Suburban Conference crossover win.
Lexi Yonkovic (double, 2 walks, 2 runs), Morgan Manka (RBI, run, walk) and Jordan Cortesi (2 RBI, walk, run) each went 2-for-4 for Stevenson.
Winning pitcher Sam Feder struck out six and walked four.
Mundelein 23, North Chicago 2: Lauren Fairweather jacked her ninth home run of the season, doubled and drove in 5 runs in the North Suburban crossover.
Erin Kennelly was 4-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI for Mundelein (21-7), while Chloe Peterson (double, 3 RBI) and winning pitcher Maria DeVito (2 RBI) added 2 hits apiece.
Antioch 12, Lake Forest 2: Kaylene Ressler went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, and Taylor Schiltz doubled twice for the Sequoits in the North Suburban crossover.
Antioch also got 2 hits apiece from Jessica Pedersen, Katie Phillips, Mackenzie Thomas and Hannah Skoog.
Libertyville 16, Vernon Hills 3: Taylor Zoellick homered, and Madi Dembinski doubled and drove in 3 runs for the Wildcats in the North Suburban crossover.
Libertyville received 2 hits apiece from Zoellick, Tayler Oberman, Margaret Haws and Jamie Stevens.
Winning pitcher Michaela Mooney did not allow an earned run in her five-inning complete game. She struck out six.
Steffany Froman had a single and an RBI for Vernon Hills (5-11).
