USAgain partners with Will County to collect 3,130 pounds of textiles at Textile Recycling Week

USAgain, the textile recycling company proudly provided recycling services to Will County (Ill.) at their Textile Recycling Week, a week-long collection drive the county has operated since 2006. A total of 3,130 pounds of textiles were collected from April 29 to May 3, with collections headquartered at the County Office Building in Joliet.

Textile Recycling Week enabled Will County residents to conveniently recycle surplus textiles and build community spirit. Most people are aware that glass, paper and plastic are recyclable items, but as Will County and USAgain would like to emphasize, clothing is just as recyclable.

“I believe our residents are more aware of environmental issues and are looking for convenient methods of recycling,” said Larry Walsh, Will County Executive. “I encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity to get unwanted textiles out of their homes.”

The 3,130 pounds collected by Will County prevented the emission of 21,910 lbs. of climate-altering CO2 into the atmosphere. By preventing clothes from entering the waste stream, Will County Textile Recycling week was a tremendous success and a step in the right direction toward eliminating textile waste in Illinois.

"USAgain applauds Will County for their textile recycling initiatives and hopes county residents will follow their local government's example and reuse or recycle all unwanted clothes and other household items going forward,” said USAgain CEO, Mattias Wallander. A recent waste characterization study found that textiles account for 7% of Illinois' landfill mass, which is a concerning amount. Reducing this amount isn't possible without events like Will County's Textile Recycling Week.

The event culminated with a live radio broad cast on 1340 WJOL-AM on Friday, May 3. USAgain's Dave Nowlan joined on-air host Scott Slocum to discuss the importance of recycling clothing and preserving environment.
